7th Planetary Crater Consortium Meeting
August 17-19, 2016
Lincoln Field Building, Brown University, Providence, RI
Venue:
The Planetary Geosciences Group in the Department of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences at Brown University will be hosting the 7th Planetary Crater Consortium meeting Wednesday, August 17 through Friday, August 19, 2016. The meeting will be held in the Lincoln Field Building, which is located on Simmons Quad off Thayer Street (between Waterman and George Streets). A map of the Brown University campus can be found here. The meeting will include time for contributed oral and poster presentations and sufficient time for general discussion topics. You do not have to present an oral or poster presentation in order to attend the meeting.
We strive to keep the PCC meetings informal and set aside much of the time for general discussion. Dress is casual, so leave the neckties and nylons at home.
Registration:
There is no registration fee for the PCC meeting. However, please email Nadine Barlow by August 5, 2016, to let us know if you will be attending so we can plan accordingly for refreshments, etc.
Abstracts:
All participants are strongly encouraged to submit an abstract to the meeting. ABSTRACT DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, AUGUST 5, 2016, 5:00 PM PDT/MST. Abstracts should be 2-page, single-spaced, LPSC style format. Please submit your abstract in PDF (preferred) or Microsoft Word format to Nadine Barlow. Please indicate whether you are requesting an oral or a poster presentation, or if the abstract is "print only". Abstracts will be posted on the PCC website by Wednesday, August 10, 2016.
Transportation:
TF Green Airport (PVD) is located less than 15 miles from campus. Airlines that fly to Providence include American, Delta, Southwest, and United.
Boston's Logan Airport (BOS) is located ~50 miles from Providence and offers many more airlines. Options for getting to Providence include renting a car, riding the MBTA "T" and Commuter Rail, or traveling by bus with the Peter Pan line.
Hotels:
Several of the hotels in downtown Providence offer Brown University rates, which are offered through the Brown Travel Portal. Note: For government rates, do not use this internal site. Instead, go directly to the hotel site.
The Fletcher House also is highly recommended. It is located close to campus at 19 Stimson Street. Inquires can be made by calling 401-272.5466.
Directions to Brown University:
Brown University is a short 10-15 minute walk from all the downtown hotels...but up-hill. Some of the hotels do offer shuttle service. The Fletcher House is located north within 5 minutes of campus (no hills).
Other Things to Do:
The Planetary Geosciences group at Brown created a field guide of the geology of southern Rhode Island for 2003 Planetary Mappers Meeting.
There are endless possibilities for doing everything and nothing at the same time while visiting Providence and the surrounding area:
